Editorial Policy
How we research, write, fact-check, and update everything we publish.
Who writes our content
Every article on Hearth & Hedge is written by a credentialed contributor with verified experience in the subject — a certified Master Gardener, a working interior designer, a licensed contractor, or a journalist with deep beat experience in the relevant area. Contributor bios and credentials are linked from every article.
Research and sourcing
We prioritize primary sources: university extension services, peer-reviewed horticultural literature, manufacturer specifications, building codes, and interviews with practitioners. When we cite figures, we cite the source. We don't paraphrase from other content sites.
Fact-checking
Every article is reviewed by a second contributor or our editor before publication. Numerical claims, plant identifications, and product specifications are verified against original sources.
Updates and corrections
We revisit articles at least once a year and update them whenever the underlying facts change. The "Updated" date on every article reflects substantive revisions — we don't bump dates to game search rankings. If you find an error, please tell us and we will correct and disclose it.
Independence and disclosure
Hearth & Hedge is editorially independent. We disclose affiliate relationships clearly; we do not run sponsored content disguised as editorial; and product recommendations are based on hands-on use, not commission rates.
AI use
We use AI tools to help with research, copy editing, and image alt text generation. We do not publish AI-generated articles. Every published piece is written, reviewed, and signed off on by a human contributor.
